Norfolk status Widespread. Smaller (15-17mm) than the similar Notocelia roborana (18-22mm)
N. trimaculana usually has a larger dark basal patch and the pale area is more marked than N. roborana.
Notocelia roborana and N. trimaculana can be provisionally separated by size. Genital dissection may be required for confident distinction between the two if size is intermediate.
Common on chalk downs and open woodland where hawthorn is well established throughout much of the British Isles.
